A recent study has shown that more and more Americans are opting for cosmetic surgery. Even though people are struggling with increasing health care and gas prices, most people living in Philadelphia don’t mind paying extra for cosmetic surgery. The number of people doing Cosmetic surgery in Philadelphia rose by more than 5 percent in 2011 to 2012.

This is the third consecutive year that overall growth in cosmetic surgery in Philadelphia continues to driven by sharp increase in minimally invasive procedures. However, growth of surgical procedures continues to remain stable. Some minimally invasive procedures that are popular in Philadelphia include chemical peels, Botox and laser hair removal.

Surgical procedures like liposuction are not as popular as Botox in Philadelphia because people have less discretionary income for surgical procedures. Another reason why people avoid Liposuction in Philadelphia is because cosmetic surgery is not covered under a normal health insurance policy

Philadelphia is not the only city that has witnessed a sharp increase in cosmetic plastic surgery procedures. Even though the number of people undergoing cosmetic surgical procedures decreased by 2 percent certain surgical procedures male breast reduction and breast augmentation continued to increase.

Reconstructive plastic surgery that is performed to improve the function and appearance of abnormal structures like scars was up by 1 percent last year. The top reconstructive surgery that was performed in America was tumor removal. Most health insurance providers cover reconstructive surgery but the level of coverage may vary. If you are depending on your insurance policy to cover the expenses of cosmetic surgery, make sure you read the terms of the policy.

However, if you are planning undergo a cosmetic surgery; you must understand the risk associated with the surgery. Each surgery has its own risk and getting a plastic surgery without understanding the risk associated with the surgery can be life threatening. For example, of the risk of breast augmentation is rupturing or hardening of breast implants.
